First I better catch up on yesterday. Yesterday I started yet another phase in my attempt to help my friend and her family. I have several friends who I know are in the process of moving in one form or another, so I contacted them with a list my friend has made of things she needs now that she  has moved into a skeleton of a temporary home. I know that when moving you often go through all of your things and often get rid of many things you no longer use, so I thought they would be a great source for things she needs.

Today I decided to do a task option. I was feeling a bit lazy upon arriving at work and decided to park by my building at a meter rather than do the walk from the parking garage down the street. (Oh I learned my lesson of being lazy I must say). So since plugging a parking meter was a task it suited me perfectly today. Every time I went down to put more quarters in my meter I would also pop some in any cars that had hit the expiration on their meter or were really close. I thought it was all working out great. Well, that was, until I forgot to go down to fill the meter because I got caught up in my work. Yes I went down to find a pink piece of paper in my windshield. Being lazy cost me $23. Too bad someone wasn’t performing random acts of kindness meter plugging when mine expired! Oh well. Hopefully one of my filling the meters for others at least help them escape the fate I had.

I did indeed meet someone I had never met tonight (yes I went on a date) lol but that doesn’t count. No in al honesty today was about arranging my two friends…….the one who lost her house to the fire…..to another………a wonderful humanitariean that wants to help out. Ya know what is really amazing? I have done so little other than be a connection……….but that feels great! I may not have much to offer financially myself but being able to provide that connection! Amazing!

Well today I actually followed a task! Woooo hooo! I bought this yummy chocolate turtle candy and left it on a co-worker’s desk for them to find. Oh it sure looked yummy is all I can say!

I also talked with someone today who is clearing out their house, to get things for my friend and her family. Looks like we will be able to supply her with all sorts of things that she will be needing. I am so happy about that

So yes today was a great day!

Summertime Summertime Summertime!

I am keeping true to my summertime grouping and not quite following my daily tasks as good as I had when life was a bit slower. However this is all remains true to my heart even when I miss following as strictly as I set out to (at least right now).

On Friday, it was a crazy day at work. One of those days in which you keep looking at the clock hoping the day will end before another problem lands on your desk. However I was in a very energetic mood, so I was running around helping out wherever I could find an opportunity to. I was in an extremely energetic mood and wanted to do do do (makes the day go by faster as well!

Then when I got home, I did a good deed for………..MYSELF! Yes I chose to do something special for me! I had a spoil me bubble bath with the candles and all that…then did relaxed and did my nails and just did some spoil me. That was a very successful random act of self kindness which put a HUGE smile on my face.

On Saturday, I did something different than usual. I spent my day and night paying attention to the needs of others I encountered and opened doors, fetched coffee or water for people, remained especially concious of the feelings and emotions of everyone around me….and ensured I maintained a level of awareness of the needs of everyone around me. It was a day of awareness, and a truly special experience and one I will do again.

Sunday was errand day for me and wind down from the busy Saturday I had before. After a relaxing morning I was feeling a little bouncy in the day. I had a friend that had shared with me the day before that she was having issues in replying to her email when she was traveling with her laptop. So I spent some of my afternoon researching the issue for her. I found several solutions, evaluated them for her explained them all and the pros and cons of each one and layed out the steps they each involved. It took me a bit of time, but I felt incredibly good in knowing I made her life easier in doing the research for her as well as providing her three solutions for her problem.

Today, I helped out a co-worker. He asked me to review and comment on a paper he was working on. So I reviewed it and gave him comments on what I saw in it and what might help tweak it some. He really had done a great job with it and I was very impressed. It was nice that he came to me because I had helped him before. It was nice knowing that he knows I am someone willing to help out when I can.

Update on my friend. She returned to work today. They have found a house to rent while theirs is being built and hope to move in soon because they are really getting tired of the hotel. I can’t wait until she can be in a house again with her children even if it is just a temporary location. She also gave me such a wonderful thank you card. Something she didn’t need to do.

I am telling you this month has been much more busy than I ever anticipated when I entered into this venture. I suppose that is good and bad. The good is that well things are so active for me that I am very busy both in work (always a good thing!) and in my personal life (can’t complain there either). The bad is that it does make it difficult for me to break away and write things here. I do have to admit that sometimes  I do find the time at moments, but not always is my motivation at that time to come here an log in my actions. I suppose that means that sometimes when I am dragging I do have the perception of logging here to be a chore on a long busy day. While I do know that on other days I look forward with anticipation to share something I did.

So anyways… yes it has been busy so I do apologize for my slacking in my random acts of kindness task postings.

To start - an update regarding my friend. She is still trying to find a house to rent, so her family is still couped up in a hotel. I do see that it is starting to wear on her. She may or may not be returning to work next week.

For what I did the past two days, well one day I did return to the local playground of my complex and played the hide and seek game with change for the children. I have noticed that sometimes I see them peering around the playground equipment and vacinity more closely than they used to in the past (either that or I am just more aware). So maybe they have come to realize that on some days there seems to be a lot more “treasure” to be found than on other days.

My other task was that yesterday while at a shopping center, I was at one end and noticed a few shopping carts completely on that end which was the complete opposite end of where the grocery store was. Since I was headed that way, I put them together and pushed them over to the store shopping cart spot. It was a very hot day and if it made one less truly long walk for the person that has to collect the carts…then I will have accomplished something!

Wow I must say that I was suprised today. I had a few people call me and let me know they had brought some clothes for my friend’s family. My cube at work became rather full! But it was awesome when she and three of her kids came by to pick them up. A house for them to live in for the next 6 months to a year still hasn’t been found so they are still trying to adapt to life in a hotel. I know that has to be rough.

I again assisted with her team to help them with their projects. All of this has made me extremely busy lately, but it is all ok because it is all in a good way! It really is inspiring seeing how so many people are helping with this family in different ways, those that know her and then those that don’t know her or her family at all but just wish to help others. Really impressive!

Task Three Option:

If you know someone who is having a hard time financially, pop a $5, $10 or $20 note in an envelope, disguise your writing or type the envelope, and post it to them.

Today  I  didn’t do one of the tasks, but that is because I am still trying to assist regarding my friend who lost her house. Not even directly her. Her absence from work is felt. She used to be my supervisor in a different department, so they are feeling a bit of the pain. So although I don’t work in that department anymore……. I  spent some of my day helping those in that department because  I used to work there.  Helping out no matter what.. no matter in what way…….is helping out.

Well I have to admit I lacked again yesterday. I think it is time for me to look at myself and see what is going on that I am faltering lately once in a while when I had been so good at completing daily tasks.

My life has been extremely hectic lately, but I have always enjoyed performing these acts of kindness. For me to go through a day without even checking the site to see what the tasks for they day were….that to me is a warning flag that somehow I am getting a bit overloaded somehow in my life and need to figure out where I need to adjust. So that is a project for me. Time to slow down to look at myself.

Today, I did check……..still a hectic day…….but I checked and I chose to send a thinking about you card to a random person from the phone book. I swear I still to this day wonder what the people who get these think. Hopefully it brings a smile to their face rather than them thinking I am some fruitcake

Today I liked seeing the task of taping some change to a payphone.  That would be a fun one to do. But since I was uncertain of when I would see a payphone and didn’t want to walk around with a thing of tape all day, what I did instead was tape the change to one of my dare to be an angel random acts of kindness cards . That way when I saw a payphone I could leave it there. I actually did it with three cards just in case I had the opportunity to do it  more than once.

Well I didn’t use all three cards, but I did use two. One at a payphone near where I work, and another at a payphone at a shopping center near where I live. Now do I know that someone will use it for a phone call? Nope. I know that some people check payphones to see if there is any change in the change return, I also know that some person just hanging near the phone might see the card and take the change. But regardless……it may put a smile on someone’s face… and that is what it is about!

I did not get to post anything yesterday, because I came home to a computer that was very unwilling to cooperate with me. It seems to wish to die on me right now and I keep on trying to inspire it to keep on working. Trying to turn my pc into the little engine that could!

Things have just been so hectic lately that I even wore two different shoes to work (until I realized that my switching shoes in the car on the drive to work was only half completed)…luckily the matching shoe was in the car!

So with that and the computer issue I discovered upon getting home from work yesterday..I have to say…..I did not follow any of the set tasks. I did continue to respond to people who contacted me due to outreach I made for my friend who endured the fire, but no tasks did I do!
